class: Typography II
brief: use the context of a modular letter construction to create a prototype for a modular font. A minimum of 26 upper-case or lower-case characters (you are not required to create both). You may choose to create a unicase font combining typical characteristics of upper and lower case characters. Your letterforms must be modular/ rational/repeatable forms

Ideation
I knew the mechanic I wanted from the beginning. I wanted to create modules to function as ‘cutouts’ and embrace negative space (a huge part of my design school journey) rather than building up with the modules, you carve away.
As far as stylization, I wanted a retrofuturistic western inspired typeface. The words that I kept coming back to were: space cowboy.
Early sketches and Fabrication
The ‘base’ module then went through several proportional adjustments.

External Usability
If this were to be developed into a physical product, it’s not intuitive and requires some closer examination and familiarity. This could be achieved in the future using different methods of presentation, and including the new gif.
Demonstration
Using after effects, I was able to animate a gif of how the modules cut away at the base, and create the negative letterform
